MEG is used for hydrate inhibition in closed loop pipelines and is used extensively in gas production lines.

PRP – pressure reduction platform
The pipeline system has been divided into two sections for ease of reference. The section between the wellheads and the Pressure Reduction Platform are referred to as flowlines and the section between the Pressure Reduction Platform and the Onshore Plant as pipelines.
HIIPS – High Integrity Pressure Protection System

Many deepwater fields are developed as subsea completions with production either tied back to a platform in shallow water or transmitted to a floating production system. In many cases the processing facility is remotely located from the producing wells. Therefore flow assurance in the gas gathering system is critical of all subsea deepwater developments. Sea bottom temperature is cold and cooling of wellstreams during transmission can lead to formation of problematic hydrates and other solids such as waxes and asphaltenes which can clog flowlines and other subsea equipment.

Hydrates are a physical combination of water and other small molecules that form a solid material with an ice-like appearance but significantly different in structure and properties than ice.
The hydrate inhibition solution must ensure that hydrates do not form
